DENVER – We at the Denver Agency for Human Rights & Community Partnerships (HRCP) and our Denver Office of Nonprofit Engagement (D-ONE) are pleased to announce that as of today, thanks to funds made available by the American Rescue Plan Act, $1 million have been awarded to 30 local nonprofit organizations.
HRCP’s Denver Office of Nonprofit Engagement issued two Request for Proposals (RFP) in 2023 for Denver-based or Denver-serving nonprofits that needed financial support to assist with recovering from the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. The COVID-19 pandemic has disproportionally impacted the nonprofit sector in Denver, particularly in the areas of financial, staffing, programming, and fund development, making it difficult for our local nonprofits to meet the needs of the communities they serve.
“We are so excited about supporting nonprofits in this way,” said Wil Alston, Director of HRCP’s Denver Office of Nonprofit Engagement. “Nonprofits play such a critical role in partnering with the city to deliver needed services to residents. And even though the sector was hit hard by the pandemic, and many nonprofits faced tremendous hardships, organizations of all sizes stepped up. So, this financial support plays a small but critical part in stabilizing these nonprofits.”
Beginning in February 2023, D-ONE sought proposals from nonprofits committed to increasing their capacity, program development, and/or program restoration. Following a review of more than 50 applications, 30 were chosen to receive grant funding of up to $50,000. These organizations submitted project proposals ranging from the expansion of programs helping residents in need of mental health care, and food access for families in need, to those working in the areas of individuals with disabilities, homelessness, and immigration.
“Denver’s Nonprofit Recovery Grant has been a lifeline for our small nonprofit,” said Kendall Hagar, executive director at The Wayfaring Band. “This funding is giving us the support we need not only to recover from the challenges brought by the pandemic but also to build the capacity needed to thrive in the future. The grant is helping us with strategic planning and capacity building, including the development of a new revenue stream. The Wayfaring Band is not just bouncing back; we are taking huge steps forward, making a more significant impact in our community, and ensuring our mission of inclusion will continue for years to come.”
“This grant has given Sunshine ☀️ the ability to work with professionals who are helping our staff build new skills, organize our marketing to work more efficiently, and support the board with tools to help with fundraising,” said Alison Joucovsky, Founder/ Executive Director at Sunshine Home Share Colorado. “This funding is allowing Sunshine to learn and grow in ways that would never have been possible without a capacity-building grant. So much has changed since COVID, and this grant is allowing our organization to learn and grow, making it possible to thrive,
The 30 selected local nonprofits have until December 2025 to execute their proposed projects. Visit our Funding page to learn more about the recipients, the funds awarded to each, and more!
